Data use & credit

Every measurement, score, tier, chart, photo and written review on notsonabil comes from the lab's own testing and work. The site is free to read, but the data is not public domain and it is not free for commercial use.

What you may do

You may copy, share and build on the data for non-commercial use (research, personal projects, community posts, teaching) as long as you give credit and link back. Using the data in videos, including monetised videos, is fine with proper credit. The data (scores, tiers, latency figures and the downloadable CSV and JSON) is offered under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 (CC BY-NC 4.0).

What you may not do

  • Use the data, photos or written content commercially, for example in a paid product, app, subscription, dataset for sale, or a competing database, without paying and getting written permission (see below).
  • Present the data as your own, or remove the credit.
  • Copy photos and written reviews wholesale. Product photos and the text of reviews and guides are all rights reserved; the licence above covers the data only.
  • Use the photoshoots beyond fair use (see below) without paying and getting permission.

Written articles and larger sites

Written articles that use the data also need a data usage fee, with one exception: small blogs do not pay. Larger sites do. Where the line falls is decided case by case, after looking at the site's standing and its monthly visitor count, and the fee for a larger site is agreed with you directly. Credit and a link are still required either way. Videos with proper credit are fine and need no fee.

If you are not sure which side you fall on, email before you publish and include a link to your site and, if you can, a recent screenshot of your visitor statistics.

Photoshoots

Fair use of the photoshoot images is fine: a small number of photos, credited and linked back, used to discuss or review the product shown. Any similar use is paid. That means using the photos the way this site does, or as a substitute for them, for example in galleries, product pages, photo-led articles, comparison pages or advertising. Ask first and get written permission.

How to give credit

Wherever you use the data, name the source and link to the page it came from. For example:

Data: notsonabil.com (https://www.notsonabil.com/benchmark-db/database)

Credit is required everywhere the data appears, including charts, spreadsheets, videos and posts. In a video, show or say it and put the link in the description.

Commercial use and API access

Commercial use, including access to the data through an API, is paid. Support the lab on Patreon, then email to ask for permission. Use only starts once permission is given in writing.

  • $3 per month
  • $20 per year
  • $50 for lifetime access

Questions

If you are unsure whether your use is covered, or to ask for commercial permission, email notsonabil@gmail.com before you publish. How the tests work is on the Lab page; what the site records about visitors is on the Privacy page.
