Privacy, affiliate & advertising disclosure
notsonabil is a free site. There are no visitor accounts. This page says what the site records, how affiliate links and sponsor banners work, and why neither affects a score.
Affiliate links and paid referrals
Some links to shops are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never change a score, a tier or a recommendation, and nobody pays for placement. Test results come from the lab's own measurements, and values adjusted by hand are marked as manually verified.
Advertising and sponsorships
The site carries, or will carry, sponsor banners on the sides of pages and at the top of some pages. They pay for testing, hosting and upkeep. Banners are sold directly to shops, websites and tech brands related to the hardware reviewed here, and each advertiser is checked first. Brands that want to advertise can find out how on the Advertise page.
- Sponsored banners and sponsored vendors are labelled as sponsored.
- Banner spaces rotate between several sponsors, and a sponsor's banner is never shown on that brand's own review or product pages.
- Sponsors and affiliate partners never change a score, a tier, a ranking position or a recommendation, and they cannot preview or edit a review.
- A sponsor's products are tested the same way as any other, and an unfavourable result stays published.
Banners are placed by the site itself, not by an advertising network, so no ad network watches you across websites. Clicks on a banner, and how often each banner is shown, may be counted as totals in the same way as shop and donate clicks, without your name or IP address. If that ever changes, for example by adding an ad network that sets cookies, this page will be updated.
What is recorded when you browse
- Page views: the page path, the site you came from, a rough device type (phone, tablet or desktop) and your country. A visitor ID is made by hashing your IP address and browser with a secret that changes every day, so it cannot be followed across days. Your IP address is not stored with the page view. Hourly totals (counts only, no IP addresses) are copied to a spreadsheet for the owner. Bots are ignored.
- Clicks on shop and donate buttons: which button was clicked, your browser's user-agent text and the page you were on. No name or IP address is stored with them.
- Page speed: Vercel Speed Insights measures how fast pages load.
- Abuse protection: to limit spam and automated requests, your IP address is used briefly as a rate-limit key. For the request and report forms, a hashed form of your email address is used the same way.
At the time of writing the site sets no advertising or tracking cookies of its own.
Forms
If you use the contact form, the request-a-review form or the issue report form, the details you type (such as your name, email and message) are stored so they can be read and answered. The request and report forms are delivered through Google Forms, so Google also receives what you submit there.
Services that handle data
The site runs on Vercel, stores its data in Supabase, serves images from Cloudflare, uses Upstash for rate limits and traffic counters, and uses Google Forms and Patreon where linked. Each of those handles data under its own policy.
Questions or removal
To ask what is held about you or to have a message removed, email notsonabil@gmail.com. More about how testing works is on the Lab page. Rules for reusing the site's data are on the Data use & credit page.
